In this lecture, Stefan Schurig (World Future Council) talks about the vision of regenerative cities as the greening of the urban environment and the protection of nature from urban expansion, and above all else, about the greening of urban systems of production, consumption and construction. Schurig proposes necessities to transform cities into 'regenerative' systems.

Partnership towards Energy Efficiency buildings in East Africa
UN-Habitat has partnered with an East African organisation to promote academic capacity building and knowledge transfer for energy access, efficiency and low-carbon technologies in the field of sustainable housing. The partnership to be executed through the Promoting Energy Efficiency in Buildings in East Africa (EEBEA) project will see UN-Habitat working with the Joint development of courses for Energy efficient and sustainable housing in Africa (JENGA).
UN-Habitat trains East African youth on energy efficiency
Some 30 young people drawn from Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda gathered in Karen, Nairobi, last week for a training organized by UN-Habitat called ‘Hands-on training course on Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Technologies for Youth Empowerment’.
The training, running from 8 to 12 July 2013 was held by UN-Habitat in conjunction with the Climate Action Programme for Schools and Youth (CAPSAY).
It addressed the need to engage young people and enable them to become active proponents of energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies within their communities.
Kigali hosts meeting on energy efficiency
The city of Kigali in Rwanda two months ago hosted a regional workshop on energy efficiency in building codes.
The three days meeting passed a declaration on mainstreaming energy efficiency in codes, policies and building regulations.
During the three days, around 60 participants discussed building codes and existing regulations in the five East African countries Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi.
Urban Energy Unit discusses energy efficient buildings with Kenya architects
UN-Habitat presented the 'Energy Efficiency in Buildings in East Africa' (EEBEA) project to approximately 100 architects and town planners of the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK). The architects had gathered in Nairobi for their annual breakfast to discuss 'The Role of Smart Technology in Buildings'.
