UN-Habitat and the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy offer the 15th edition of the professional training program ‘Informal Land Markets and the Regularization of Informal Settlements in Latin America’. The course is developed in collaboration with the General Directorate of Planning and Territorial Development (DGODT) and the Agency to Promote Development Initiatives (APID) of Dominican Republic, and will take place in Santo Domingo, from 27 November to 2nd December 2016.

The course is tailored to experienced professionals, decision makers, lawmakers, experts and researchers who are currently involved with urban land, housing, slums and urban planning issues in Latin America and the Caribbean.
This 6-day intensive professional development course is practical and problem-solving oriented. It provides participants with an interactive and dynamic learning environment through which they will develop knowledge and systematize their understanding of land markets while learning instruments of economic analysis on informality, land markets and land price formation in cities.
Participants will deepen their understanding on the processes that generate informal settlements in cities of Latin America and the Caribbean and the types of policies and approaches to mitigate and prevent the multiplication of slums. Participants will acquire knowledge about the economic dimension of informal settlements formation and develop technical knowledge to enable them to plan, design, manage and execute scaled-up programs. Several case studies and experiences in cities of Latin America and the Caribbean and other regions will be analyzed and discussed throughout the course. Field visits and panel discussions will highlight local, national and international experiences.
