2-day in-depth training on the Waste Wise Cities tool by UNHabitat
On February 3 and 4, 2021, UN-Habitat and Wasteaware organized a two-day in-depth training on the Waste Wise Cities (WaCT) tool. The training was conducted on the Zoom video conferencing application and was available in English and French. The in-depth training included expert presentations of the WaCT methodology, as well as videos summarizing each step of the guide. Participants were invited to contribute to a group discussion to share their thoughts on how WaCT could be useful to them. Recordings are available here: ((Day 1 and Day 2). More details are available here.
Safe management of landfills in Addis Ababa by JICA and UN-Habitat
In December 2018, JICA and UN-Habitat co-organized a 5-day training on safe landfill management in Addis Ababa. The training program included lectures and on-site training at the Koshe landfill, where UN-Habitat was implementing the rehabilitation of the collapsed slope. The UN-Habitat team of experts gave a series of lectures on landfill management for different technology options. Participants also visited a newly constructed waste-to-energy plant and plastic recycling companies in Addis Ababa and learned from their experiences. 30 waste management officers from 14 ACCP members benefited from the study tour.
Training course on solid waste management by JICA
JICA offers comprehensive training on solid waste management under the "Knowledge Co-creation Program for African Countries", annually in English and French, in collaboration with the City of Yokohama. The training consists of a series of lectures, site visits, and action planning activities. Participants learn not only from the Japanese experience but also through interaction with other participants. Although participants are usually invited to the JICA training center in Yokohama, the training program has been online since 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. More details here and here.
