The 37th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF) ended on Sunday bringing to a close an event which brought together local and international organizations and companies to showcase their products as well as services.

UN-Habitat as part of the 20 United Nations agencies in Tanzania also participated in the fair under the United Nations Tanzania Delivering as one.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Tanzania Mizengo Pinda graced the closing ceremony and United Nations Tanzania, was once again honoured with a special recognition in reaching and supporting the Tanzania community. The Premier visited the United Nations stand among others, and requested the United Nations Tanzania to consider the e-books system for academia, especially in primary and secondary schools. United Nations Tanzania was represented by the United Nations Resident Coordinator, Alberic Kacou and the UNICEF Representative, Jama Gulaid.

During an interview with the local media houses Mr. Kacou said that the United Nations System in Tanzania through its agencies, will continue to work with the government of Tanzania to ensure sustainable development and quicker results in all the ten programs: (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene –WASH, Economic Growth, Environment, Education, Health and Nutrition, HIV & AIDS, Governance, Social Protection, Emergencies and Refugees) which consider Human Rights and Gender.

President Jakaya Kikwete also visited the United Nations exhibition booth on July 4 accompanied by the Trade Minister, Dr. Abdallah Kigoda and commended United Nations work in Tanzania at the same time calling for more support to entrepreneurs and youth in that country. He said that skills development for small enterprises and cooperatives is a must for sustainable employment opportunities to the Youth in the country. He also called on the United Nations Tanzania to elevate the pace of school feeding countrywide, to increase school attendance as well as students’ concentration in the class and give support to women in various avenues for quick results.

King Mswati III of Swaziland had earlier in the week graced the official opening of the International trade fair on 1st July 2013. The event saw over 1,600 exhibitors drawn from the 32 countries taking part.
