Metropolitan Day 2018
The Metropolitan Day global campaign 2018 is a joint initiative developed by several international partners, including CIPPEC, the Inter-American Development Bank, Metropolis, UN Habitat MetroHUB, the University of Guadalajara, the Politecnico di Milano, Metropolitan and Territorial Planning Agencies (MTPA), Fundação Getulio Vargas - CEAPG, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit and Trasnversal, with the goal of honouring the Montreal Declaration on Metropolitan Areas and also, the Urban October UN Habitat.
Besides, we get the participation of 14 metropolitan cities: Montreal (Canada), Monterrey (Mexico), Sekondi-Takoradi (Ghana), San Salvador de Jujuy (Argentina), Guadalajara (México), Rosario (Argentina), Novo-Hamburgo (Brazil), Tijuana (Mexico), San Salvador (El Salvador), Medellín (Colombia), Srinagar (India), Quito (Ecuador), Montevideo (Uruguay) and Buenos Aires (Argentina).
This initiative seeks to promote single-day meetings across cities around the world during the first week of October 2018. Leaders will have the opportunity to convene with their peers from neighboring cities to discuss the most pressing challenges facing their territory and develop methods for applying the New Urban Agenda.
Moreover, bringing together leaders of urban agglomerates to develop collaborative learning spaces that promote exchange among peers, raising international awareness on the importance of comprehensive metropolitan management that promotes coordination and cooperation among local governments, and promoting knowledge transfer among participants through spaces that facilitate innovation and exchange of best practices represents some of the main aims of this campaign.
